The first Icenian badge event was held on 16th November 1975, and the title has been given to CUOC's main open event of the year ever since, which first took its current place in the calendar at the end of January in 1991. The Trophy itself is an armillary sphere, a crude analogue computer for solving astronomical problems. It is awarded for a team competition, which has been won by the following clubs:

Rules
The exact rules for determining the winning club have varied over the years. Below are details of recent rules, for the benefit of whoever has to work them out once they stop asking me to do it for them...
- 1997 - lowest overall sum of time behind the winner for the best 12 Long/A course runners which include four M/W20-, four M/W21-45 and four M/W50+.
[WAOC 16:19, NOR 31:27] - 1998 - rules as 1997.
[SOS 21:07, WAOC 36:32] - 1999 - lowest overall sum of time behind the winner for the best 10 Long/A course runners which include at least two M/W20-, two M/W21-45 and two M/W50+, as well as at least four M and four W.
[SOS 3:28, NOR 7:33, WAOC 31:06] - 2000 - most East Anglian champions (i.e. Long/A class winners from EA clubs).
[WAOC 10, NOR & SOS 8] - 2001 - rules as 1999.
[WAOC 19:11, NOR 33:41, SOS 38:17] - 2003 - rules as 1999.
[WAOC 41:12, NOR 73:01, SOS 86:39] - 2004 - rules as 1999, except that all junior classes count now that there is no A/B distinction.
