Orienteering

While my first experience of orienteering was in the parks and patches of woodland of south London, competing in the Croydon Schools' League, what really got me hooked was going to the Lakes with CUOC at the end of my first term in Cambridge - I'm very glad now that I didn't find the chess club nearly as friendly! I'm now a member of DrongO and the local open club WAOC, as well as being on the regional committee. I can be found at events most weekends, competing more for the fun of it rather than the expectation of winning...

Personal Log

Here is my diary of the orienteering events I've been to, starting from the beginning of this year. The entries form both a review of the courses that I've run, and of my own performance to hopefully inspire me to train a bit more often!

There are a few other lists of personal interest as well, though perhaps not to many others... the maps I've surveyed, and events that I've organised, planned and controlled. If you think I've screwed up at any of these events and want to let off steam, please do...

Statistics

I've accumulated plenty of orienteering-related statistics, particularly in relation to CUOC, in the course of the last few years, and I'm listing them here both as a historical record and for reference. A great deal of thanks must go to Chris Thorne, both for keeping such good records of Varsity Match and Cuppers results and for passing on to me his collection of back issues of CompassSport and Points East when he no longer had room for them. I have every issue of the former since its creation in 1980, and all the latter since Number 25 in 1977 - if anyone has any issues of Points East from even earlier than this I would be grateful for an opportunity to make copies! The other sources employed, apart from my direct involvement in more recent times, were the collections of old newsletters and minutes that have survived in the stores.
